Exciting young sire Potala Palace is responsible for lot 255, a colt consigned by Boland Stud at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale.
A magnificent individual himself, Potala Palace was a top class athlete who defeated a top class field when victorious in the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes as a two-year-old.

Among the star performers vanquished by Potala Palace on that occasion were such G1 winners as Fighting Warrior and Master Plan, as well as subsequent G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner and star sire Gimmethegreenlight.

Potala Palace trained on well to land the G3 Jo’burg Spring Challenge, beating champion Link Man by a length, with G1 winners Wagner, Love Struck and Royal Bencher further back in the field.

A son of champion Singspiel (and from the same male line as Galileo, Frankel and Kitten’s Joy), Potala Palace, who shares his broodmare sire Alzao with outstanding sire Deep Impact, is from one of the best families in the stud book.

His G3 placed dam Alignment is a half-sister to British G2 winner Bonny Scot as well as to the dam of English classic winner Golan, whose wins included the 2000 Guineas, and to G1 Epsom Derby runner up Tartan Bearer. Another English classic winner from this family is Epsom Derby winner and classic sire North Light, while Breeders’ Cup winner and champion Islington (by Sadler’s Wells) is yet another high class relative of Potala Palace.

Golan

This is the same family as top class sires Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev, Reform and Fairy King –to name but a few!

Lot 255, as yet unnamed, is out of an Al Mufti ¾ sister to the dam of G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Little Miss Magic, and this is also the family of G1 performers Blaze Of Fire, Bilateral, State Treasure, Priceless Asset and champion Tara’s Touch.
