Lot 11 – Golden Earings x Crusade
Gypsy’s Warning relative looks a smart prospect
Boland Stud will be bringing another high-class draft of yearlings to this year’s August 2YO Sale, which will take place at the SunCoast Dome July 1st and 2nd. One such yearling is the colt, sired by Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade out of the regally bred Fort Wood mare Golden Earings. Already dam of a winner (her only runner thus far), Golden Earings is a half-sister to three graded stakes winners, notably the outstanding filly Gypsy’s Warning. The latter, who earned over R1 000 000 in South Africa alone, captured five graded races during her career-including the G1 Matriarch Stakes in North America and both the G1 Thekwini Stakes and G1 SA Fillies Classic in South Africa.

International Gr.1 winner – Gypsy’s Warning
Already dam of 2 winners, Gypsy’s Warning won or placed in no fewer than eight Gr.1 races! Golden Earings also numbers millionaire, and Gr.3 London News Stakes winner, Romany Prince as a half-brother and Gr.2 Camellia Stakes queen Surabi as a half-sister. Yet another half-sister, Queen Of All, is the dam of talented fillies Keep Smiling and Queen Forever, the latter named the East Cape Champion 2YO Filly of 2016-1027. The well related Golden Earings (she traces back directly in female line to legendary racemare Sceptre) is herself a daughter of Gypsy Queen, with the latter a full-sister to the SA Oaks winning full-sisters Noble Destiny and Royal Prophecy.
Fort Wood, the broodmare sire of the colt in question, was South Africa’s Champion Broodmare Sire in 2012-2013, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017. His daughters have already produced nearly 90 stakes winners headed by champions Capetown Noir, Cherry On The Top, and Marinaresco as well as the likes of Captain America, Real Princess, William Longsword and this season’s World Sports Betting Triple Crown winner Malmoos. Crusade, the sire of the Boland Stud offered colt in question, won one of the world’s most historic races for two-year-olds -the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes (notable Middle Park Stakes winners also including such star stallions as Dark Angel, Diesis, Petingo, Oasis Dream and Sharpen Up). Despite dying at a young age, Crusade left behind a slew of high-class performers including the stakes winners Alfeo, Butchie Boy and Covered In Snow, as well as the likes of Bullsade, Cruzador, Linear and Silent Crusade.
