Lot 111 – Lovely Rita x Querari
Lizarre relative to take centre stage at National Sale
Boland Stud will be offering some well bred fillies at this year’s National Yearling Sale, with one such lot appearing in the form of the Querari filly (Lot 111) out of the Captain Al mare Lovely Rita. Germany’s Champion Older Horse in 2010 , Querari has proven consistently successful since retiring to stud.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019, Querari has already supplied nearly 50 black type horses, and has also firmly stamped himself as more than capable of siring high-class fillies. Notable Querari daughters thus far include Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon and runner up and Melliflora, graded stakes winners Cockney Pride and Mill Queen, East Cape Oaks winner Solana, Lady’s Slipper Stakes winners Luna Wish and Herrin, and Gr.2 Southern Cross Stakes runner up Hoist The Mast.
His filly out of Lovely Rita hails from an excellent female line. Not only is the Captain Al sired Lovely Rita a half-sister to Lizarre (a champion in Singapore, and runner up in the Gr.1 Daily News 2000), but Lovely Rita also ranks as a three-parts sister to both dual Gr.2 winner Dance With Al (by Captain Al) and the talented Boland Stud bred The Merry Widow. A daughter of Captain Al, The Merry Widow won both the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint and Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery at two, and is the dam of this season’s smart two-year-old Danilo Danilovitch.
The well bred Lovely Rita is out of a full-sister to Gr.1 winning two-year-old Talahatchie, and this is also the family of champion filly, and Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner, Lady In Black, and recent Gr.2 Peninsula Handicap winner Nexus. This Querari filly is bred on the same Querari/Captain Al cross as graded stakes winners Head Honcho and Kampala Campari
