Lot 141 – Massachusetts x Rafeef

Boland Stud - Lot 141

In the world of thoroughbred racing, where champions are born and legends are made, we present to you an extraordinary opportunity—an opportunity to be part of greatness. Allow us to introduce you to the remarkable William Robertson, a versatile and high-class galloper who has proven his mettle on the racetrack. William Robertson, the son of the increasingly successful sire Rafeef, is a shining example of excellence. At the time of writing, he has triumphed in 17 of his 27 starts and amassed earnings exceeding an impressive R1.512 million in stakes. His journey to glory has been nothing short of spectacular. From his victory in the Gr.3 Tony Ruffel Stakes at three to capturing the Gr.2 Topbet Mike O’Connor Spring Challenge at four, William Robertson has consistently demonstrated high-class form against the very best of his generation.

The illustrious William Robertson clinched the 2021 Bloodstock SA Sales Cup and further showcased his prowess by finishing second to the subsequent Horse Of The Year, Captain’s Ransom, in the 2022 Gr.1 Mercury Sprint. He continued his dominance by securing another second place, this time behind Equus Champion Isivunguvungu, in the Gr.1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint. His illustrious list of defeated rivals includes the likes of Gr.1 winners Alesian Chief, Ambiorix, Bohica, Chimichuri Run, Good Traveller, Isivunguvungu, Master Archie, Zarina, and South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year, Princess Calla.

Rafeef

Gr.1 Winner & Sire Sensation – Rafeef

Now, Boland Stud is proud to present to you the full-brother to this extraordinary horse—a colt marked as Lot 141 in the upcoming 2023 November Two Year Old Sale. This Rafeef colt, who also shares lineage with the talented Mount Greylock, is the offspring of a daughter of the former South African champion sire Trippi, aptly named Massachusetts. Massachusetts, a three-time winner and full-sibling to the earner of over R8 million, Illuminator, is a half-sister to Klawervlei Farm Sale race winner Rock The Globe. Rock The Globe secured third place, right behind the multiple Equus Champion Got The Greenlight, in the 2019 Gr.1 Premiers Champion Stakes.

Massachusetts, in her own right, boasts impressive lineage as she descends from the stakes-placed Pacific Lights—a half-sister, sired by the legendary Al Mufti, to the Gr.1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship victor, Silver Arc. Rafeef, the Gr.1 Computaform Sprint champion and son of the legendary sire Redoute’s Choice, has already etched his name in the annals of success as a stallion. His first three crops to race have each produced at least two graded stakes winners, and his current crop of three-year-olds is headlined by the exciting Gr.2 Tabgold Umkhomazi Stakes winner, Outlaw King. Of particular note, Leaving Las Vegas, a Gr.3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner, shares the same Rafeef/Trippi cross as the colt on offer.
