Cape Guineas winner’s sister to impress at November sale

Boland Stud will be offering a small but select draft at this year’s November Two Year Old Sale. Their consignment is made up of two-year-olds sired by some of South Africa’s best and most promising stallions including Elusive Fort, Querari, The United States and William Longsword. Perhaps the standout in this draft is the blue blooded half-sister to last season’s top-class three-year-old, and Gr.1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas winner, Russian Rock. The latter, who beat the likes of Linebacker, Jet Dark and Malmoos when victorious in the Guineas, has earned over R500 000 in stakes thus far.

Russian Rock – 2020 Gr.1 Cape Guineas winner

Russian Rock is out of the Proclamation mare Elisium -herself the dam of four winners from just five runners, and a mare from one of the best families in the stud book. Elisium is herself a half-sister to the stakes placed dam of Gr.1 two-year-old Winged Cup, as well as to the top-class producer Hoity Toity. The latter is the dam of Gr.1 Coronation Stakes/Gr.1 Matron Stakes queen Lillie Langtry -herself the dam of both Cartier Horse Of The Year, and seven time Gr.1 winner, Minding and this year’s Gr.1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Empress Josephine. Elisium’s own dam Hiwaayati is a half-sister to the group winning sires Great Commotion and Lead On Time, with her third dam Vive La Reine a full-sister to brilliant Arc winner, and outstanding sire, Vaguely Noble. This is also the family of South African champion Arabian Lass and triple Gr.1 winner Smart Banker.

The filly in question is a daughter of Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes winner The United States, a full-brother to dual Gr.1 winners Hermosa and Hydrangea. A son of Galilleo, The United States made an explosive start to his stud career with the chestnut’s very first runner being Gr.2 4Racing SA Nursery/Listed Storm Bird Stakes victress Sheela. The latter has won three of just four starts thus far and rates as one of the most exciting fillies of her generation! The United States’ offspring have, understandably, been very sought after in the sales ring, with his two-year-olds fetching up to R700 000 at the August Two Year Old Sale. Tellingly, The United States shares his legendary sire Galileo with both Minding and Empress Josephine, making the Boland Stud consigned filly bred on very similar lines to those two outstanding classic winners!
