Lot 158 – Acaciawood x Vercingetorix

Boland Stud - Lot 158

Vercingetorix colt has a stallion’s pedigree!

Equus Champion, and former National Sale graduate, Vercingetorix has quickly established himself as one of the best stallions in South Africa. From his first crop, Vercingetorix came up with no fewer than 11 stakes winners, headed by Gr.1 TAB The Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Astrix and fellow graded stakes winners African Warrior, Gallic Princess, Ikigai and champion Nebraas. Subsequent crops have also proved hugely successful, and have yielded such Gr.1 winners as Alesian Chief, Ambiorix, Chansonette, Pomp And Power, Vernichey and champion Cousin Casey. The latter, South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2021-2022, has won five of nine starts including both the Gr.1 Premiers Champion Stakes and Gr.2 Durban Golden Horseshoe in 2022.

Vercingetorix is also sire of speedy 2020 Listed Terrance Millard Umngeni Handicap winner Celtic Voyager, who recently won in Dubai. Boland Stud will be offering a colt, bred on similar lines to Vercingetorix’s high-class daughter Wisteria Walk, by this outstanding stallion at this year’s National Yearling Sale. The colt in question is a half-brother to the smart galloper Run As One, who showed promise early in his career for Mike de Kock. The pair were produced by speedy racemare Acaciawood, herself a daughter of multiple champion sire Captain Al. Acaciawood won four times, scoring from 1000m to 1200m, and finished third in the Gr.3 Champagne Stakes when beaten less than two lengths by the winner. A half-sister to the stakes placed Jubilee, Acaciawood, who is bred on the same Captain Al/Fort Wood cross as Gr.1 winners Captain America, Malmoos and William Longsword, hails from a top-class female line.

She is out of the Fort Wood mare Lucy Would, herself a winning own-sister to Gr.2 Drill Hall Stakes winner Syon and three-parts sister to Gr.1 Canon Gold Cup runner up Noblewood and Gr.2 Premier’s Trophy victor Hundred Acre Wood. Fort Wood’s top-class son Golden Oriole is yet another classy close relative of Lucy Would, while further back, this is the family of such Gr.1 winners as Torpedo Boat, Tsessebe, Will To Win and With Pleasure. This colt is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as Gr.1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Vernichey, Guineas runner up Supreme Warrior, and useful Hong Kong performer Super Commander.
