Lot 160 – Adobe Pink x Fire Away
Boland Stud offer blue blooded Fire Away filly
War Front horse Fire Away has made a very smart start to his stud career. His first two-year-olds have yielded a plethora of promising winners, including the smart debut winners Luna Halo and Except Temptation and Fire ‘N Flames. The latter showed great speed when romping home to shed his maiden by four lengths when scoring over 1000 metres to become Fire Away’s very first winner. A son of one of the world’s leading sires, Fire Away, who finished third to Breeder’s Cup winning champion World Approval in the Gr.3 Tampa Bay Stakes, himself won seven times including the Gr.3 Dixie Stakes and two other black type features.
The impeccably bred Fire Away, whose Gr.1 Belmont Derby winning half-brother Mr Speaker has already sired such Gr.1 winners as Speech and Speaking Scout, is a half-brother to two graded stakes winners, while his high-class dam Salute is a daughter of outstanding sire Unbridled (also broodmare sire of legendary sire Tapit) and unbeaten Breeders’ Cup Distaff winning champion Personal Ensign. Boland Stud will be offering a superbly bred filly by this exciting young stallion at the 2023 National Yearling Sale. A half-sister to a winner, this filly is out of the top-class racemare Abobe Pink, whose six career wins included triumphs in all of the Listed Sun Classique Handicap, Listed East Coast Handicap, and Listed Queen Palm Handicap. Also runner up in the Listed East Coast Handicap, Abobe Pink was as versatile as she was talented and won from 1400m to 2500m.The beautifully bred Adobe Pink, whose grandsire Deputy Minister was a truly exceptional broodmare sire, was one of no fewer than six stakes winners produced by the outstanding broodmare Nacarat. The latter, whose Gr.3 placed daughter Vermilion produced 2021 Gr.2 Cape Merchants winner Vikram, is best known as the dam of Gr.1 winners Nania (Thekwini Fillies Stakes) and Red Ray (Mercury Sprint), but Nacarat also produced a pair of top-class sprinters in Bishop’s Bounty (Gr.2 Diadem Stakes) and Brutal Force (Gr.2 The Merchants). The latter was unlucky not to win a Gr.1 race himself, with Brutal Force beaten just a head into second place when runner up in the 2021 Gr.1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship. His full-brother Red Ray, who earned more than R2 million in prize money, has also made a name for himself at stud, as the sire of Gr.1 WSB SA Classic winner Red Saxon and Gr.3 Joburg Tourism Magnolia Handicap victress Alula’s Star. The four time winning Nacarat was herself a half-sister to both Gr.1 Summer Cup winner Rudra as well as triple Gr.1 winner Set Afire, while her own dam Tawny Red was a four time winning half-sister to July winning champion Royal Chalice.
