Lot 272 – Katy’s Lane x Duke Of Marmalade

Boland Stud – Lot 272
A Cartier Champion, and one of Danehill’s very best sons, Duke Of Marmalade reeled off five consecutive G1 victories when named Cartier Champion Older Horse in 2008.
His G1 wins included the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Juddmonte International Stakes, Tattersalls Gold Cup and Prix Ganay, with Duke Of Marmalade banking more than £1.3 million during his illustrious career.
Since retiring to stud, Duke Of Marmalade (whose relatives include champion sires Al Mufti, A P Indy and Raja Baba) has enjoyed plenty of success, with his stars including such classic/G1 winners as Simple Verse (G1 St Leger), Star Of Seville (G1 French Oaks), Nutan (G1 German Derby) and Sound Of Freedom (G1 Premio Lydia Tesio). Another son, five time group winner Big Orange, is currently one of the leading hopes for the 2017 G1 Ascot Gold Cup, to be run next week.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose offspring include more than 50 black type performers, will be represented by his first South African yearlings in 2017 and Boland Stud are proud to offer lot 272, a daughter of this blue blooded champion, at the KZN Yearling Sale.

Simple Verse
Going by the name of Duchess Lane, this filly is out of the top class racemare Katy’s Lane, a granddaughter of Nijinsky II whose six wins included the G3 Fillies Mile and G3 Starling Stakes, Katy’s Lane, who banked more than R500 000 in prize money, is herself a half-sister to 2 other black type performers notably, the ten time stakes winner Follow The Piper.
The latter, who earned over R800 000 during her career, was sired by Tiger Ridge –himself a close relative of Duke Of Marmalade himself.
