Lot 299 – Grande Roche x One World
Boland Stud offer classically bred filly at national sale
There are few, if any, fillies on this year’s National Yearling Sale with a more potent pedigree than Omnipotent. Consigned to the sale by Boland Stud Omnipotent already has plenty of paddock value and the bonus of being a daughter of one of South Africa’s most popular young stallions. She is a daughter of the Captain Al sired One World, South Africa’s Champion Older Male of 2019-2020. A stakes winner at two, three and four, One World won four graded races including the Gr.1 Sun Met of 2020. (Previous Met winners included multiple champion sire Foveros and the highly successful Futura to name but two).
Also runner up in the 2020 Gr.1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, One World earned more than R5.631 million in prize money in a career which saw him never finish out of the top three. His daughter Omnipotent is a half-sister to the very classy Galla Vanting, who won her first two starts including the Gr.3 Pretty Polly Stakes of 2022. Omnipotent and Galla Vanting are daughters of the classically bred High Chaparral mare Grande Roche. A daughter of a dual Derby winning son of Sadler’s Wells (whose son Fort Wood is broodmare sire of numerous top performers sired by One World’s sire Captain Al), Grande Roche is a winning half-sister to Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes queen Rocha, herself the dam of Australian Gr.3 winner Rocha Clock. This is also the same female line responsible for producing Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal as well as top-class sire Darci Brama. Grande Roche was produced by Gr.1 South Australian Oaks winner Larrocha, with that daughter of Danehill a full-sister to no fewer than four stakes winners headed by Gr.1 Victoria Derby winner Blackfriars. The latter became an extremely successful sire, with Blackfriars’ tally of near 50 stakes winners headed by such Australian Gr.1 winners as Black Heart Bart, Playing God and Come Play With Me. High Chaparral, the sire of Grande Roche, was an exceptional stallion whose 134 stakes winning offspring included such Gr.1 winners and successful stallions as So You Think, Dundeel and Toronado, as well as Melbourne Cup hero Rekindling.
