Lot 32 – Balkan x Master Of My Fate
Boland Stud to offer sharply bred son of Master Of My Fate
Master Of My Fate colt set to star at Two Year Old Sale.
Boland Stud has been a strong supporter of well related sire Master Of My Fate, and the Ceres farm will be offering some high-quality two-year-olds by that Jet Master horse at the 2020 Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale. One of the best of Boland’s Master Of My Fate juveniles on offer is the classy colt out of three time winning Horse Chestnut mare Balkan. A half-sister to the stakes placed two-year-old Varuna and the Ashley Fortune trained Gr.1 contender Chantyman (who has earned over R690 000 in prize money), Balkan hails from an excellent international family. Her own dam Sea Of Calm is a daughter of outstanding broodmare sire Quiet America
-the damsire of more than 100 stakes winners including champions Saint Liam and Bernardini.
Balkan’s granddam Ocean Ridge, herself the daughter of another outstanding broodmare in the form of Storm Bird, was a top-class two-year-old who scored her biggest win in the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin. Further back, this is the family of international Gr.1 winners Curata Storm, Hailsham and Indian Queen, with Balkan herself tracing back directly in female line to legendary broodmare Lady Josephine.
Legendary South African champion and Horse Of The Year Horse Chestnut (whose sire Fort Wood was responsible for Master Of My Fate’s stakes winning half-sister Justthewayyouare) has become an increasingly potent broodmare sire, with his daughters already responsible for the likes of Equus Champion and Met winner Smart Call, and the international Gr.1 winners Cannock Chase, Zipessa, Suggestive Boy, the brilliant full brothers Channel Maker and Johnny Bear, and Fault. Latest star produced by a daughter of Horse Chestnut is high class filly Camphoratus (out of the Horse Chestnut mare Wild Camphor) who took her earnings to over R1 000 000 when she won the Gr.1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes, when downing, among others, reigning Horse Of The Year and multiple Gr.1 winner Oh Susanna.

Master Of My Fate
Master Of My Fate, whose relatives include current standouts Erik The Red, Ecstatic Green and the hugely impressive recent debut winner Malmoos, has made a superb start to his stud career. The G2 Premier Trophy/G2 Peninsula Handicap winner has been responsible for graded stakes winners in each of his first crops and was recently responsible for a pair of Gr.1 winners in the form of Sentbydestiny (Premiers Champion Stakes) and Tempting Fate (Golden Horse Medallion). The latter was recently crowned Equus Champion 2YO Colt for 2019-2020 following a season which saw the Dennis Drier trained colt win both the Golden Horse Medallion and Gr.3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.
This year’s National Two Year Sale is set to take place at the TBA complex in Germiston, with the auction taking place on November 12th and 13th. This colt has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winner Thunder Dance!
