Lot 363 – Romantic Moon x Querari
Boland Stud to offer a classy half-sister to KZN Million winner
Boland Stud will be offering 15 yearlings at this year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, and one of the picks in this draft could well be the Querari half-sister to the very talented Lunar Rush. Trained by Duncan Howells, Lunar Rush earned nearly R1 000 000 during her career, with her five career victories (she won from 1200-1300m) headed by a triumph in the 2016 KZN Yearling Sale Million, where Lunar Rush romped home to an effortless two and a quarter length score.
Boland Stud will be offering a Querari half-sister to Lunar Rush, with the two fillies produced by Silvano’s high-class daughter Romantic Moon. The latter, one of her sire’s very speediest daughters, won eight times from 1100m to 1200m, with Romantic Moon’s career highlight coming when she ran third, to Pivotal’s top class daughter Headstrong, in the Gr.3 Poinsettia Stakes over 1200m. Romantic Moon, bred on the same cross as the Silvano sired Gr.1 winners Vercingetorix and Happy Valentine, is in turn out of a dual winning half-sister to Gr.1 Mercury Sprint winner All Will Be Well.
Further back, this is one of the finest families in the North American stud book, with Romantic Moon tracing back directly in female line to Spinaway Stakes winner Sunday Evening –also the ancestress of such outstanding
international performers as Medaglia D’Oro, Bluebird, Indian Skimmer, Dark Mirage, Henrythenavigator, Magician and Java Gold.
Querari, the sire of the filly on offer, is one of South Africa’s most popular stallions, with his 30 plus stakes horses headed by such notable graded stakes winners as Querari Falcon, Monks Hood, Mill Queen, Cockney
Pride, and Head Honcho.
Eugene is in awe of this classy filly, saying, “She’s beautiful with a strong, athletic frame.”
