Lot 369 – Mina Salaam x Erupt

Boland Stud - Lot 369

Erupt’s blue blooded daughter to shine at national sale

Beautifully bred young sire Erupt is a very exciting prospect. One of more than 50 Gr.1 winners for his legendary sire Dubawi, Erupt won both the Gr.1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris and Gr.1 Pattison Canadian International during his globetrotting career. From the same family as champion sires Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and Holy Roman Emperor, Erupt has made a very pleasing start to his stud career. His promising first-crop is headed by speedy Gr.3 Protea Stakes winner Karangetang, the stakes placed Flowerbomb, Bloodstock SA Sales Cup winner Unzen, and the useful sorts Beerenberg, Perilla, and Set To Go. Erupt has also made a bright start with his two-year-olds this season including the impressive winners Golden Tatjana and Ripple Effect.

With some well bred two-year-olds yet to represent him this season, the future looks bright for Erupt. However, Erupt will have few better bred daughters around than La Vida Loca, whom Boland Stud will be offering at this year’s National Yearling Sale. This filly’s first two dams are both stakes winners, while her third dam produced no fewer than three Gr.1 winners. La Vida Loca is out of the Medaglia D’Oro sired classy racemare Mina Salaam, whose seven wins included triumphs in the Listed Zimbabwe Guineas, Listed Bloodstock SA 2000 and Listed Queen Of The Sand. Mina Salaam has already enjoyed plenty of success at stud, with her three winners headed by the speedy True To Life. The latter, herself an equine millionaire, won eight times with True To Life’s victories headed by wins in the 2021 Gr.3 Wilgerbosdrift Tommy Hotspur Handicap and 2019 G3 Gauteng Tourism Authority Magnolia Handicap. True To Life, who won from 1000m to 1400m, was unlucky not to win a G1 feature, finishing runner up in the G1 SA Fillies Sprint and third, twice, in the Gr.1 Computaform Sprint.

Her dam Mina Salaam is a half-sister to Gr.1 Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Deo Juvente, who earned more than R3.6 million in stakes, with the pair produced by dual Equus champion Circle Of Life. The latter won six graded races including the Gr.1 Garden Province Stakes. Medaglia D’Oro, broodmare sire of La Vida Local, has long been one of the world’s top sires. His more than 160 stakes winners include such champions as Rachel Alexandra, Songbird and Golden Sixty, the hugely successful sire Violence, and rising star sire Bolt D’Oro. Medaglia D’Oro has also become a very successful broodmare sire, with his daughters already dam of more than 60 stakes winners headed by the Gr.1 winners Rachel’s Valentina, Rock Fall and Competitionofideas.
