Lot 369 – Varster x Futura

Futura filly bred to be anything

Boland Stud will be offering a regally bred daughter of one of South Africa’s most promising stallions at this year’s Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale.

Futura, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year of 2014-2015, got off to a superb start with his first two-year-olds last season. The four-time Gr.1 winning son of Dynasty supplied a pair of first crop stakes winners in Gr.2 Durban Golden Horseshoe victor Nourbese (also runner up in the Gr.1 Premiers Champion Stakes) and the unbeaten Dindingwe (Champion Juvenile Stakes), while his promising daughter Jasmine caught the eye when running on smartly for third in last season’s Gr.2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper.
The exciting Futura came up with another impressive first crop winner when his son Avenir made an eye catching winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville recently, and Futura looks a young sire of considerable promise.

Boland Stud will be offering a beautifully bred filly by this young sire at the Two Year Old Sale, and excitingly enough she is bred on the same Futura/Var cross as the aforementioned Avenir! The filly in question, who hails from an exceptional filly family, is out of the three time winning Var mare Varster -a half-sister to Derby winner Silvano’s Jet and the smart stakes placed filly Jetano. Varster, herself bred on the same cross as Gr.1 winners Rivarine and Vardy, is herself out of the stakes winning Jet Master mare State Coach (a 3/4 sister to Gr.1 winner Little Miss Magic) and Varster’s granddam is Gr.1 Fillies Guineas winner State Treasure.

This is also the family of champion filly Tara’s Touch and fellow top class fillies Bilateral, Red Disa, Little Miss Magic, Stolen Gem and Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Tick Tock (dam of SA Nursery winner William The Silent -a three-parts brother to Varster!) Varster is by a sire whose daughters are enjoying increasing success as broodmares. To date, Var mares have produced such stakes winners as TEMPTING FATE (Gr.1 Scottsville Gold Medallion), MONTREAL MIST (Gr.2 Greyville Debutante Stakes), She’s A Giver (Gr.3 Starling Stakes), Zen Arcade (Gr.3 Graham Beck Stakes), Miss Frankel (KwaZulu Natal Stakes), Mambonick (Swallow Stakes) and Down To Zero (Gr.3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap).

The Futura filly is bred on very similar lines to Equus Champion, and Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner, Lady In Black –who was sired by Futura’s sire Dynasty out of a daughter of Jet Master.
