Lot 415 – Clockwinder x Querari

Blue blooded Querari filly has plenty of appeal

Boland Stud will be offering some very attractive yearlings by in form sire Querari at this year’s National Sale, and one of the most appealing is the filly (Lot 415) out of the well bred mare Clockwinder. Windrush mare Clockwinder is herself a half-sister to none other than the brilliant Irish Flame -South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2010. A triple Equus Champion, the globetrotting Irish Flame won seven times, scoring in both South Africa and Britain, with his wins including a nine and a half length win in the 2010 Gr.1 SA Derby and a defeat of champion Bold Silvano in that year’s Gr.1 Daily News 2000. Clockwinder, who also numbers Winter Oaks winner Irish Myth as a half-sister, is out of former Winter Oaks winner Clock The Rock, and further back, this is the family of such high-class graded stakes winners Lion’s Blood, Meadow Magic, Swartland and Vertical Takeoff.

Her Querari daughter is bred on the same Querari/Windrush cross as top-class galloper, and recent Gr.2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes winner Rio Querari. Windrush has already enjoyed plenty of success as a broodmare sire, with his daughters having already produced the likes of Equus Champion Nother Russia, Gr.1 SA Fillies Classic/Gr.2 SA Oaks winner Juxtapose, and top sprinter Rio Querari to name a few. A son of Oasis Dream, Querari made a blistering start to his stud career, with Querari’s small first crop of 27 foals, of which 26 raced and 23 won, producing an impressive eight black type horses, notably the graded stakes winners Cosmic Light and Kangaroo Jack. Querari’s subsequent crops have yielded a host of graded stakes winners, headed by Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon, millionaire and Gr.2 Premier Trophy winner Head Honcho, exported Gr.2 Gauteng Guineas/Dingaans victor Monks Hood, Gr.2 winner and millioniare Wonderwall, high-class sprinter Pinnacle Peak, and Gr.2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper victress Cockney Pride.
