Lot 42 – Hargraves Bell x Master Of My Fate
Master Of My Fate filly to continue her family’s legacy
Boland Stud will be sending an exceptionally well related daughter of rising sire star Master Of My Fate to this year’s National Sale. The filly (Lot 42) in question hails from one of the most prolific in the South African stud book, and this filly, bred on similar lines to the Jet Master sired Oaks Trial winner Touch The Sky, looks to have plenty of upside about her. She is a half-sister to four winners already, and her Royal Academy sired dam, the winning Hargreaves Bell, ranks as a half-sister to Listed East Coast Handicap/Listed Queen Palm Handicap heroine Feel My Love.
Hargreaves Bell, whose own dam Bellhouse is a Danehill half-sister to Irish champion Basim, is from the same family as the Royal Academy sired star producer Mystic Spring. The latter, South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in 2016-2017, ranks as one of South Africa’s finest broodmares of recent years, with Mystic Spring’s 10 winners including seven stakes winners, notably Equus Champions, and multiple G1 winners Bela-Bela and Rabiya.
Mystic Spring, whose progeny also include the graded stakes winners Secret Of Victoria, Spring Lilac and Guineas winner Secret Captain, also ranks as the granddam of seven stakes winners, notably the Gr.1 winners All Is Secret, Snowdance and The Secret Is Out. Notable feature races won by Mystic Spring and her progeny and their descendants include the Gr.1 Cape Fillies Guineas, Gr.1 Paddock Stakes, Gr.1 Majorca Stakes, Gr.1 Cape Guineas, Gr.1 Allan Robertson Championship, and Gr.1 Mercury Sprint. This family received a recent boost when Mystic Spring’s great-granddaughter Sovereign Secret won the 2021 Listed Lady’s Bracelet, and this is also the family of the flashy Mystiko -whom Michael Roberts partnered to victory in the 1991 Gr.1 2000 Guineas. Royal Academy, broodmare sire of the filly in question and sire of the outstanding Mystic Spring, is one of the world’s finest broodmare sires, with the late son of Njinsky II already broodmare sire of more than 200 black type winners, headed by multiple champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock. This filly has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced multiple Gr.1 winner In The Fast Lane!
Bela-Bela – Gr.1 Garden Province Stakes
Snowdance – Gr.1 Cape Fillies Guineas
