Lot 425 – Surefire x Quasillo

Lot 425 - Quasillo ex Surefire

Quasillo – a colt bred to be a star!

Boland Stud will be offering the only Quasillo colt at the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, which is set to take place in Germiston. The only son of outstanding racehorse and sire Sea The Stars at stud in South Africa, Quasillo has his first yearlings on offer this year.

A talented galloper himself, the regally bred Quasillo won two of only three starts, with his victories including a triumph in the Gr.3 Bavarian Classic. Quasillo, who shares his Arc winning sire with exciting young British sire Sea The Moon among many others, is a half-brother to three stakes winners notably Gr.1 Premio della Repubblica winner, and top South African sire, Querari, Gr.2 Canadian Stakes winner Quidura, and Doncaster Mile victor Sharja Bridge.

Quasillo, whose granddam Quebrada was Germany’s Champion 2YO and 3YO Filly in 1992 and 1993 respectively, is from the powerful Green Desert male line responsible for such outstanding stallions as Invincible Spirit, Cape Cross, Sea The Stars, Oasis Dream, Showcasing, Kingman, and I Am Invincible. He is represented in Boland’s National Sale draft by a colt out of Surefire -a three time winning daughter of Count Dubois (interestingly, Quasillo’s half-brother Querari has an excellent record when mated to daughters of Count Dubois).  Surefire herself is a half-sister to Gr.3 King’s Cup winner Pirate’s Gold and to the useful, stakes placed, Shukamisa.

Further back, this is the family of the Brett Crawford trained triple Gr.1 winner Captain America(R6 million plus earner) and the latter’s Gr.3 winning three-parts sister Aquitaine. Further back, this is the same Queen Of Light family as major international Gr.1 winners Desert Prince (Irish 2000 Guineas), Fairy Footsteps (1000 Guineas), Light Cavalry (St Leger), Greinton (Hollywood Gold Cup), Lawman (French Derby), and Cape Blanco (Irish Derby).

Count Dubois, the broodmare sire of the colt in question, is a proven high-class broodmare sire, and when his daughters have been mated to Quasillo’s half-brother Querari they have produced top sprinter Pinnacle Peak, Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Melliflora, and the stakes placed pair of Adrianos Shadow and Kazaar.

Boland’s Eugene Freeman is very keen on this Quasillo colt, describing him as a “beautiful, strong and athletic colt.”
