Lot 441
“will give you a lifetime of memories – he is bred to fly”
CHAMPION RELATIVES LIFT VAR COLT TO NEW HEIGHTS
Boland Stud perhaps offer one of the best bred Var’s coming in the form of Lot 441.
This unnamed bay colt is a son of Champion 2YO Sire Var (enjoying another sensational season with his juveniles), whose 20 Gr.1 horses include such champions as Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa. Other notable graded stakes winners sired by Var include Gr.1 winners August Rush, Contador, Normanz and Villandry, as well as recent Gr.2 (formerly Gr.1) Golden Horseshoe hero Purple Diamond.
Var has some sensational juveniles again this season, which his potential stars including the Vaughan Marshall trained Zinedine and Doug Campbell’s unbeaten filly Val-La-Ree. To date, runners sired by Var have earned in excess of R111 000 000!
The colt on offer is closely inbred to multiple champion sire Storm Cat. This pattern has previously worked successfully in such Gr.1 winners as Nother Russia, Lady Aurelia and Harmonize. He is out of a winning full-sister to Listed Easter Handicap winner Great Rumpus, and half-sister to exported Gr.1 Champions Cup winner Master Plan and Gr.2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes heroine Polyphonic. This is the same family as Equus Champions Along Came Polly, Young Rake, and Rock Opera. The latter has been in the news this year thanks to the deeds of her remarkable son Heavy Metal. The latter, who appears likely to line up on Dubai World Cup night, has won 14 races and won both the Gr.2 Al Maktoum Challenge R1 and Gr.3 Firebreak Stakes in 2018.
Other notable runners from this prolific family include Gr.2 The Nursery winner Hit Song and Gr.1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship winner Gulf Storm. Broodmare sire Black Minnaloushe has already produced the goods as a damsire –the son of Storm Cat is broodmare sire of Gr1 Thorndon Mile winner Stolen Dance. To date, daughters of the Irish 2000 Guineas have produced the earners of more than $14 million, with other group winners out of Black Minnaloushe mares including Amarula, Bangkok, Little Wonder, Sexy Cash and Trump.
