Lot 58 – Monpazier x Captain Al
“is a powerful, graceful mover with a pedigree to die for”
Captain Al filly one for the notebooks!
Boland Stud has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of champion sire, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al. The combination have teamed up to produced G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Captain Aldo, brilliant 2yo The Merry Widow and smart recent winner Shivering Sea.
Boland Stud will be offering a filly by this great sire at the National Yearling Sale this year.
Lot 58 shares her sire with the likes of champion fillies All Is Secret, Cloth Of Cloud and Captain’s Lover, as well as the likes of G1 winners Captain’s Gal, Emerald Cove, and The Secret Is Out, and Captain Al is also becoming an increasingly successful broodmare sire.
The blue blooded filly on offer is out of a winning Silvano half-sister to G3 winner Aquitaine (by Captain Al’s own sire Al Mufti) and to G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Captain America, by Captain Al himself. This makes the filly on offer a sister in blood to Captain America, who has earned more than R4 000 000 in prize money.
Her stakes placed five time winning second dam is a daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood. The Captain Al/Fort Wood cross is hugely successful and has produced not only Captain America, but this season’s G1 Cape Guineas winner William Longsword, as well as such high class graded winners as Captain’s Flame, Eighth Wonder, Fragrant Al and Wheredowego.
This lovely filly traces back directly in female line to 1000 Guineas winner Picture Play and even further back to great mare Absurdity, from whom numerous English classic winners are descended.
This filly’s broodmare sire, former champion sire Silvano, is an exceptional damsire, with his daughters having already produced such an outstanding performer as Cosmic Light right here in SA!
This filly has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winners Captain America, Royal Fantasy, William Longsward and Our Rokkii.
