Boland Stud - Lot 60

Querari filly has plenty of paddock value!

The consistently successful Querari has had another fine season in 2022-2023. The son of Oasis Dream has been responsible for more than 70 winners in the past season, with his offspring having banked over R13.66 million in stakes. His two-year-olds, in particular, did Querari proud in 2022-2023. Querari, a close relative of current British sensation Quinault, is the sire of the hugely exciting filly Bavarian Beauty. The latter made it two wins from just four starts, and stamped her Equus Award claims, when she won the Gr.1 Douglas Whyte Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville. Another exciting two-year-old representing Querari in the 2022-2023 South African season was Questor, who made it three wins in a row when he won the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup at the back end of the season.

Also responsible for this season’s Gr.3 Dennis Drier Poinsettia Stakes winner Marigold Hotel, Querari pulled off a notable feat when his two-year-olds Underworld, Zoomie and Baltic Secret finished 1-2-3 in the 2023 Listed Somerset 1200 (the same race was won by the sensational Charles Dickens back in 2022). Best known as the sire of Gr.1 winning champion Rio Querari, Querari has sired some outstanding fillies headed by Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon, and fellow graded stakes winners Cockney Pride, Homely Girl, Mill Queen, Maryah, Gobsmacked, Caya Coco and Gobsmacked. Querari, twice the Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa, is also showing tremendous promise as a broodmare sire, with his daughters having already produced the likes of Chansonette (Gr.1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas) and Peach Daiquiri (Gr.2 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas).

Boland Stud will be offering a daughter of this wonderful stallion at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale, with this filly already packing plenty of paddock value! A half-sister to Listed Sable Flyers winner Pegwell Bay (by Jay Peg) and Gr.3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery runner up Sublime Lady (herself the dam of the smart performer Kwazzi’s Lady), she is out of the winning Fort Wood mare Sublimity. The latter, in turn, is a half-sister to graded stakes winners Straight Set (Gr.2 The Debutante) and Unparalled (Gr.2 The Dingaans), with Straight Set and Unparalled between them earning more than R1.5 million in prize money.

Sublimity’s own dam Sublime Surge (by prominent South African broodmare sire Elliodor) is a half-sister to Gr.1 The Queen’s Plate/Gr.1 SA Guineas winning sire Crimson Waves as well as to Listed Durban Nursery winner Hooves Of Gold, and, further back, this is the family of high-class sprinter Green God.

Fort Wood, the broodmare sire of the filly on offer, has proved to be an outstanding broodmare sire and was South Africa’s Leading Broodmare Sire in 2012-2013, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017. Horses out of mares by Fort Wood have won such major races as the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July, Gr.1 Cape Guineas, Gr.1 SA Fillies Sprint, Gr.1 Champions Cup, Gr.1 Cape Derby, Gr.1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, Gr.1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, and Gr.2 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf.

Fort Wood is also broodmare sire of South African Triple Crown winner Malmoos as well as Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara victress Cherry On The Top.
