Lot 68 – Captain’s Lullaby x Gimmethegreenlight

Lot 68 - Gimmethegreenlight ex Captains Lullaby

Well bred Gimmethegreenlight filly a must-see!

The Boland Stud bred Bayview Express (Jackson-Captain’s Lullaby) made a big impression when romping home to a hugely impressive win at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday. Bayview Express justified favouritism with an effortless three and a quarter length win over 2000m, and the 3yo looks poised for bigger things this season. Excitingly enough, Boland Stud will be offering a Gimmethegreenlight half-sister to Bayview Express at this year’s National Yearling Sale. The Gimmethegreenlight filly, bred on the same cross as Gr.1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winner Gunner, and Zimbabwean champion Flanders, has plenty to recommend her –both as a racing prospect and as a future stud prospect.

One of South Africa’s hottest stallions, and South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight is already sire of nearly 50 stakes horses, with his tally headed by Equus Champion Got The Greenlight, fellow Gr.1 winners Surcharge (aka Yulong Prince) and Gunner, and such top graded stakes winners as Barahin, Gimme Six, Green Plains, Rose In Bloom, and Gauteng Guineas winner National Park.

(The exciting filly Lady Of Steel is another smart 3yo representing Gimmethegreenlight this season).

Gimmethegreenlight’s half-sister to Bayview Express is out of the Captain Al sired Gr.3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery runner up Captain’s Lullaby (also dam of the smart Gr.3 galloper Vontreo). The regally related Captain’s Lullaby, a half-sister to Gr.3 Byerley Turk winner and former Met/July contender Mambo Mime and the stakes placed dam of Gr.3 SA Fillies Nursery third Varumba, is out of the winning Miswaki mare Murmuration. The latter, who shares her sire with legendary broodmare Urban Sea (dam of Galileo and Sea The Stars), is out of champion Susurration, herself a daughter of Gr.1 Gran Criterium winner Grease.

Captain Al, the multiple champion sire of Captain’s Lullaby, is fast becoming an outstanding broodmare sire with his daughters having already produced such Gr.1 winners as Eden Roc, Gunner, Potent Power, and Same Jurisdiction, as well as graded stakes winners Ghaalla, William The Silent, Silver Operator, Freedom Charter, Head Honcho, Rebel’s Champ, Kampala Campari, and Basadi Faith.

Boland’s Eugene Freeman is quick to rave about this filly, saying, “An exceptionally athletic filly, who is a real eye-catcher.”
