War Front son set to Fire Away in South Africa!

Claiborne Farm’s Danzig horse War Front has proved a consistently top-class stallion since he retired to stud in 2007. At the time of writing, War Front had sired more than 100 stakes winners, headed by such notable Gr.1 winners/champions as Air Force Blue, Brave Anna, Declaration Of War, Hit It A Bomb, Lancaster Bomber, Omaha Beach, Roly Poly, U S Navy Flag and Preakness Stakes victor War Of Will. War Front is also responsible for well performed young stallion Fire Away, whose victories included triumphs in the Gr.3 Dixie Stakes, Artie Schiller Stakes and Danger’s Hour Stakes. A half-brother to Gr.1 Belmont Derby winner, and proven Gr.1 sire, Mr Speaker, Fire Away made his mark earlier this year when enjoying notable sales ring success at both the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale and National Yearling Sale.

Not only was Fire Away the Leading First Season Sire, by Aggregate, at this year’s Cape Sale, members of his first crop made up to R1 600 000 at the National Sale of 2022. Boland Stud will be offering an impeccably bred colt by this bright young prospect at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale. The colt in question hails from a superb female line, with his dam Arcetri Dawn, already dam of a five time winner in the form of Time To Roll, a half-sister to a multiple graded stakes winning millionaire! Arcetri Dawn, who shares her dual Gr.1 winning sire Bel Esprit with unbeaten Australian superstar Black Caviar, is a half-sister to top-class racemare Arcetri Pink. The latter, who went on to produce speedy Milkwood Stakes heroine Iris, won a trio of graded races, headed by scores in both the Gr.2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas and Gr.2 Ipi Tombe Challenge, while earning more than R1.454 million.

Arcetri Dawn and Arcetri Pink are both out of Arcetri -a daughter of Galileo, arguably the greatest thoroughbred stallion in history. Galileo has also become a phenomenal broodmare sire, with his broodmare daughters having already produced more than 230 stakes winners, with Galileo mares’ progeny having amassed in excess of $271 million! Tellingly, Galileo mares have also enjoyed plenty of success when sent to Fire Away’s own sire War Front, with this cross having produced champion U S Navy Flag and his triple Gr.1 winning full-sister Roly Poly, as well as Gr.1 Summer Stakes victor Fog Of War and Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner up Battleground. Galileo’s daughter Arcetri hails from a cracking female line with her numerous high-class relatives including Holiday Inns winner Gigantic and New Zealand Derby winner Look Who’s Talking
