Lot 89 – Bargeme x Denon Platina
Boland’s Danon Platina filly hails from a great filly family!
Boland Stud will be offering a filly from the first crop of Japanese champion Danon Platina at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale. A son of legendary Japanese racehorse and sire Deep Impact, Danon Platina was Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014. He was beaten just once at two, when Danon Platina’s victories included a triumph in the 2014 Gr.1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes. (Other notable winners of the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes include champions Grass Wonder, Narita Brian and Fuji Kiseki. The latter is famed in South Africa as the sire of globetrotting champion Sun Classique as well as former July runner up Sushishan!)

Bargeme is also a half-sister to the record breaking Masaki -who was sold for R9 000 000 at the 2019 National Yearling Sale. Bred on the same Var/Fort Wood cross as Gr.1 winner Contador, Bargeme herself is out of the Fort Wood sired Gr.3 Magnolia Handicap winner Quickwood. The latter is not only a full-sister to G1 SA Guineas winner Heir Apparent but also a three-parts sister to G1 SA Fillies Classic heroine Athina. Var, broodmare sire of the filly in question, hails from the Storm Cat male line -and it is worth noting that Storm Cat mares have enjoyed great success when mated to Danon Platina’s sire Deep Impact. Among the notable horses bred on the Deep Impact/Storm Cat cross are Breeders’ Cup winner, and champion Loves Only You, Gr.1 Hong Kong Cup winner A Shin Hikari, Japanese champion and successful sire Kizuna, and Gr.1 Dubai Turf victor Real Steel.
