Fall Aspen descendant set to shine at August 2YO Sale

Boland Stud will be offering two lots on behalf of Digteby Stud, breeders of champion Hot Ticket and high-class filly Mill Queen, at the 2021 August 2YO Sale. This pair includes a regally bred colt by former Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July winner, and increasingly successful sire Pomodoro. The latter, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2016-2017, has already more than made his mark at stud, with Pomodoro’s early crops containing the likes of champion filly Return Flight, Gr.1 Cape Guineas Presented By Cape Racing winner Russian Rock, Gr.2 Hawaii Stakes winner and R5 million plus earner Cirillo, and Gr.2 World Sports Betting Camellia Stakes queen Golden Belle.

Pomodoro is represented here by a colt, whose fourth dam is Fall Aspen -one of the greatest broodmares in history. Winner of the Gr.1 Matron Stakes, Gr.3 Astarita Stakes and Prioress Stakes, Fall Aspen produced nine stakes winners, of which four were Gr.1 winners! Fall Aspen’s stars included Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris winner and champion South African sire Fort Wood, US champion, and Gr.1 sire, Timber Country, Gr.1 July Cup victor Hamas, and Gr.1 Gamely Handicap queen Northern Aspen.

Fall Aspen, Broodmare Of The Year in USA in 1994, is also ancestress of a host of outstanding performers including Dubai Millennium, Elnadim, Mehthaaf, Intello and Mondialiste -to name but a few. Her winning great granddaughter Weather Report, a daughter of five times South African champion sire Silvano, ranks as the dam of the Pomodoro colt on offer at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale. Silvano has fared very well when mated to daughters of Pomodoro’s sire Jet Master, with this cross having produced such Gr.1 winners as Hawwaam, Kilindini and Silvano’s Pride!
