Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud has bred a really smart filly in the form of The Merry Widow, who recently picked up the third feature race win of her career when victorious in the Breeders’ Guineas Plate and she won’t stop here! The Merry Widow’s victories including both the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint and Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery, and she also finished close up in both the G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and G2 The Debutante.

Boland Stud are thrilled to offer a Master Of My Fate half-sister to The Merry Widow at the 2017 National Yearling Sale (Lot 51). The Master Of My Fate filly (described by Eugene as magnificent) is out of Jallad matron Miss Kiri who has a 100% strike rate to date, with all four of her runners having won. The regally related Miss Kiri is a full-sister to former G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winner Talahatchie and to Leading Dame (the dam of Singapore Champion Lizarre). Lizarre is a son of seven times champion sire Jet Master –the sire of lot 51’s sire, Master Of My Fate. Miss Kiri is also a full sister to Boston Tea Party, dam of G2 Betting World 1900 star and former G1 Vodacom Durban July favorite Solid Speed. Boston Tea Party is also dam of the Silvano colt who topped the 2016 National Two Year Old Sale, when he was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R2.1 million.

Master Of My Fate, sire of lot 51, was a top class athlete who won six of just eight outings including the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap. The handsome bay son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart previously made waves at the 2011 National Sale (he was the top colt sold off that sale) –and now bids to do so once again with his first yearlings in 2017!

This filly’s maternal grandsire, former champion SA sire Jallad, is a top class broodmare sire, with his daughters having produced the likes of G1 J&B Met winner Martial Eagle, Dubai Gr.1 winner Shea Shea and Gr.1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller. Jallad is also dam sire of the impressive recent Gr.1 Investec Cape Derby winner It’s My Turn.

A P Indy’s son Judpot, a half-brother to the breed shaping sire Kingmambo, has long been established as a top class sire. The blue blooded chestnut received an Equus Outstanding Stallion Award following his first crop of two-year-olds, and Judpot has steadily built on this initial success. The long list of high class performers sired by Judpot include exported Equus Champion 2YO Filly Along Came Polly, G1 Golden Horseshoe winner Forest Indigo, dual Classic winner Juxtapose, millionaire and G2 Supreme Cup winner Deputy Jud (he also finished second to Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle in the G1 SA Derby), another G1 SA Derby runner up in Rocketball, and Golden Slipper winner Final Judgement. Other high class performers sired by Judpot include G2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Colour Of Courage, the lightning fast filly Little Genie, G3 Diana Stakes winner Double Whammy and impressive recent debut winner Aurora Australis, who won first time out for champion trainer Sean Tarry.

Judpot is also responsible for lot 56 selling at the 2017 National Yearling Sale in May. This well bred colt is a half-brother to 7 winners –most notably 6 time G3 winner London Guest (by London News), whose victories included the G3 The 2200 and Listed The Sledgehammer.

Dam Model Guest, a sister in blood to multiple champion sprinter Senor Santa, has produced seven winners who have won no fewer than 24 races between them.

His second dam (by Model Man –damsire of Judpot’s champion Along Came Polly) won the G2 Natalia Stakes and was a half-sister to six time G1 winner Senor Santa, with her other notable relatives including G1 Cape Guineas winner Flight Alert. This is the wonderful Drohsky family, responsible for such champions as Sea Cottage, Aquanaut, Bold Speed, Evening Mist and Dancing Danzig among many others.

This colt’s broodmare sire, former champion sire Northern Guest, is an exceptional damsire, with his daughters having produced such outstanding performers as Champion Sprinter J J The Jet Plane, July winning sire Pomodoro, the Equus Champion siblings Let’s Rock’N Roll and In The Fast Lane, G1 Cape Derby winner Top Seller and recent Dubai feature race winner Light The Lights –to name a few!

This colt has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winners Along Came Polly, Aptitude, Honest Lady, Rags To Riches and Girolamo.

Boland Stud has enjoyed plenty of success with the progeny of champion sire, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al. The combination have teamed up to produced G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Captain Aldo, brilliant 2yo The Merry Widow and smart recent winner Shivering Sea.

Boland Stud will be offering a filly by this great sire at the National Yearling Sale this year. Lot 58 shares her sire with the likes of champion fillies All Is Secret, Cloth Of Cloud and Captain’s Lover, as well as the likes of G1 winners Captain’s Gal, Emerald Cove, and The Secret Is Out, and Captain Al is also becoming an increasingly successful broodmare sire.

The blue blooded filly on offer is out of a winning Silvano half-sister to G3 winner Aquitaine (by Captain Al’s own sire Al Mufti) and to G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Captain America, by Captain Al himself. This makes the filly on offer a sister in blood to Captain America, who has earned more than R4 000 000 in prize money. Her stakes placed five time winning second dam is a daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood. The Captain Al/Fort Wood cross is hugely successful and has produced not only Captain America, but this season’s G1 Cape Guineas winner William Longsword, as well as such high class graded winners as Captain’s Flame, Eighth Wonder, Fragrant Al and Wheredowego. This lovely filly traces back directly in female line to 1000 Guineas winner Picture Play and even further back to great mare Absurdity, from whom numerous English classic winners are descended.

This filly’s broodmare sire, former champion sire Silvano, is an exceptional damsire, with his daughters having already produced such an outstanding performer as Cosmic Light right here in SA!

Boland Stud will be offering a three parts brother to exported champion Along Came Polly at the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

This chestnut colt is a son of Kingmambo’s half-brother Judpot, a proven top class sire whose best offspring include G1 performers Forest Indigo, Mister Cricket, and Rocketball, millionaire Deputy Jud, and star fillies Final Judgement, Maleficent and G1 winner Juxtapose.

One of Judpot’s very best runners, however, is former Equus Champion 2YO Filly Along Came Polly, winner of both the G1 Thekwini Stakes and G1 Empress Club Stakes. The earner of more than R1.6 million, Along Came Polly was exported to North America at the end of her illustrious career, which saw her win or place in seven G1 races.

Lot 103 is a three parts brother to Along Came Polly, with this colt’s winning dam also a half-sister to the Judpot sired G2 performer Polyphonic.

Polychromatic, dam of the colt on offer, is also a half-sister to exported G1 Champions Cup winner Master Plan and a full-sister to five time stakes winner Great Rumpus. What A Winter –what a sire!

Triple Equus Champion What A Winter was an exceptional racehorse, whose 15 career wins included four individual Grade One triumphs. The son of multiple champion sire Western Winter was one of the best sprinters to have raced in South Africa for many a year, with What A Winter reeling off wins in such important contests as the G1 Computaform Sprint, G1 Mercury Sprint and two running’s of the G1 Cape Flying Championship. The impeccably bred sire (What A Winter is from the same family as such legendary sires as Hyperion, Sickle, Mossborough and Sir Tristram) has made a tremendous start to his stud career, and What A Winter is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by winners and stakes. His first runners include stakes performer Dutch Philip, impressive debut winner Magical and easy recent winner and feature race contender Nanna Anna.

Boland Stud will offer a really attractive filly by perennial leading sprint sire Var at the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

The sire of 18 G1 performers, including champions Variety Club, Val De and Via Africa, Var (also sire of impressive recent feature winners Exquisite Touch and Rivarine) has an exceptional crop of two-year-olds this season. They include the very impressive Varallo (unbeaten in two outings to date),recent winner Speedpoint, and debut winners Bank On It, Namibia, Trini’s Var Hyt and Valedictorian.

Boland Stud will offer lot 278, a daughter of this impressive G1 sire. She is out of a winning Jet Master half-sister to none other than 11 time G1 winner O Caesour, whose victories included the G1 Cape Flying Championship (a race won previously by Var daughters Val De Ra and Via Africa). The durable O Caesour also won two running’s of the G2 Merchants and won or placed in a total of six graded races. The filly on offer, whose second dam is a winning Al Mufti half-sister to stakes winning two-year-old, hails from one of the best families in the South African stud book. Her relatives include such G1 winners as Enchanting and Siren’s Call, as well as champions Laverna, Enchantress and National Currency. Like the filly on offer, Siren’s Call, O Caesour, Enchantress and National Currency are all sired by Northern Dancer line stallions.
Jet Master as a broodmare sire has already produced the likes of group winners Silvano’s Jet, Here Comes Billy, Chestnut’s Rocket, Madame Dubois, Eventual Angel and She’s A Pippa.

Boland Stud is proud to offer a half-brother to a former top class Singapore athlete at the upcoming National Yearling Sale in May. Lot 307 is a half-brother to no fewer than eight winners, including brilliant Singapore star Flax, who won ten times and earned more than $1 000 000. The South African bred Flax, who won from 1200m to 1800m, was an outstanding performer on his day, with his wins including the SIN G1 Raffles Cup, and he won or placed in eight major features. Among Flax’s top efforts was a brilliant third to multiple G1 winner Chinchon in the 2012 G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup, where he accounted for major international G1 winners Zazou and California Memory. Flax is a full brother to seven times stakes performer Silver Springs, and his dam is a winning Elliodor half-sister to Equus Champion 2yo Blossoming Fields , himself a triple G1 winner, and three other stakes horses.

Bejewelled Spring, the dam of lot 307, traces back directly in female to 1000 Guineas/Oaks winner Exhibitionist and this is also the family of US G1 winner and sire Mi Selecto.

The colt is sired by Equus Outstanding sire Judpot, an A P Indy half brother to French classic winners Kingmambo and East Of The Moon. Among Judpot’s numerous high class performers are former Equus Champion and dual G1 winner Along Came Polly –whose dam is by Model Man, a son of lot 307’s broodmare sire Elliodor. This makes the colt bred on very similar lines to the R1.6 million plus earning Along Came Polly. Other high class performers sired by Judpot include the G1 performers Forest Indigo, Juxatpose and Rocketball, Golden Slipper winner Final Judgement, G2 winning 2yo Colour Of Courage, and G2 winning millionaire Deputy Jud.

The colt, who is also a three parts-brother to seven time winner Social Master, is from the first crop of his impeccably bred sire, a winner of six of his eight outings including both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap. The magnificent Master Of My Fate, who accounted for such champions/G1 winners as Capetown Noir, Do You Remember, King Of Pain, and Hill Fifty Four during his career, is a son of seven times champion sire Jet Master and former Equus Champion Promisefrommyheart, a daughter of outstanding broodmare sire Elliodor. Master Of My Fate himself enjoyed a handsome update to his pedigree, when his close relative, the hugely exciting Var sired 2yo Varallo, made it two wins from as many outings at Scottsville on Sunday. A R2 000 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale, Varallo looks destined for bigger and better things and could well add yet more black type to Master Of My Fate’s already potent female line.
