Captain Al Filly

Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud enjoyed good success at the 2017 National Yearling Sale. The farm sold seven lots at last year’s sale, with their top lot coming in the form of a Captain Al filly who was knocked down for R2 000 000.

Boland Stud, whose past graduates include champions Senor Santa and Kiss Of Peace, will once again be represented by a top class draft at this year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The draft includes lots by proven sires Captain Al, Duke Of Marmalade, and Var as well as yearlings by exciting newcomers Capetown Noir, Vercingetorix and Wylie Hall.

Champion sire Captain Al is the sire of a filly (Lot 119) whose winning dam is a ½ sister to 2 stakes winners headed by Horse Of The Year, and sire Irish Flame, while Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade has a very smart filly in the form of Romantic Duchess (Lot 248). This striking bay is a half-sister to KZN Yearling Sale Million winner Lunar Rush, and her second dam is a ½ sister to G1 Mercury Sprint winner All Will Be Well.

Jet Master’s G2 winning son Master Of My Fate has made a smashing start to his stud career, and he is the sire of a colt (Lot 357) out of a five time winner from the family of G1 winners Malteme, Wendywood and July hero Power King.
Champion 2YO sire Var has two in the Boland NYS draft – a colt out of a winning Silvano ½ sister to dual G1 winner Captain America (Lot 211) and a colt out of a full-sister to Listed Easter Handicap winner Great Rumpus (Lot 226).

Triple G1 winner, and Equus Champion Miler, Capetown Noir has one member of his first crop in this draft –a colt out of a half-sister to Met winner Angus, while fellow Equus Champion Vercingetorix, has 2 first crop yearlings in the draft. Vercingetorix, a G1 winner in Dubai and South Africa, is the sire of a ¾ brother to Silvano’s Singapore G1 winner Flax (Lot 99), as well as a colt out of a full-sister to G1 winners Al Nitak and The Sheik (Lot 153).

Another G1 winning first season represented in the Boland Stud draft is Redoute’s Choice sire Wylie Hall. The latter is responsible for Newhaven -a half-brother to 4 winners headed by G2 Gold Vase hero Grey Cossack (Lot395).

Dynasty’s triple G1 winning son Jackson has a colt (Lot 108) out of a G3 placed half-sister to G3 Byerley Turk winner Mambo Mime on sale, while another triple G1 winner, Oratorio, is the sire of Magnificus (Lot 183) –a colt out of G3 Fillies Mile winner Katy’s Lane.
