The four time Gr.1 winning sire What A Winter has enjoyed another fantastic season in 2020-2021. South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2016-2017, What A Winter has been firing on all cylinders this season, and, at the time of writing, his progeny have already earned in excess of R7.267 million this season. His star representatives this season include Gr.2 Camellia Stakes/Gr.3 WSB Man O’ War Sprint (and KZN Yearling Sale buy) Celestial Love, Gr.3 World Sports Betting Magnolia Handicap queen Winter Smoke, East Cape Nursery runner up Whatever Next and the likes of Winter Mosaic, Winter Stories, and Gr.1 Cartier Paddock/Majorca Stakes runner up Clouds Unfold.

KZN Yearling Sale graduate – Gr.2 winner Celestial Love(by What A Winter)

Responsible for a trio of Gr.1 winners in 2019-2020, What A Winter has also made his mark at yearling sales around in South Africa, with his yearlings fetching up to R800 000 at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale. Boland Stud will be offering a What A Winter full-sister to the smart Princekresh, who won impressively on debut as a two-year-old, at this year’s August 2YO Sale. The filly in question, a half or full-sister to four winners, is out of the well bred Silvano mare Hidden Silver, herself a half-sister to Gr.2 SA Fillies Nursery heroine Hidden Beauty as well as to Secretariat Stakes runner up Hidcote Ridge.

By five times champion sire Silvano, Hidden Silver is bred on the same Silvano/National Assembly cross as Gr.1 winning two-year-old Happy Valentine as well as Equus Champion, and current sire sensation, Vercingetorix. Hidden Silver’s own dam Hidcote Blue is a half-sister to Met winning champion Imperious Sue -herself dam of Gr.1 Woolavington 2000 victress Imperious Star. Further back, this is the family of Dubai star, and Gr.1 sire Victory Moon, as well as Gr.1 winning siblings William Longsword and Real Princess. (Other smart members of this imposing family include very smart filly Really Royal, winner of this season’s Listed World Sports Betting Sweet Chestnut Stakes as well as this season’s Kings Cup victor Trip To Africa).
