Boland Stud to offer Vardy relative at KZN Yearling Sale

Boland Stud will be offering a number of yearlings from inform and outstanding families at the upcoming August 2YO Sale. Among this group is a Pathfork colt, offered by Boland Stud as Agent, out of the top-class racemare Joshlin. A daughter of Joshua Dancer (broodmare sire already of the likes of dual G.r1 winner Snowdance and Gr.2 Hawaii Stakes victor Chekilli), Joshlin showed tremendous talent, winning both the Gr.2 Sceptre Stakes and Gr.3 Diana Stakes in a brief career of just ten starts. A winner from 1000 to 1400 metres, Joshlin accounted for some top-class performers during her career, including Gr.1 winners Ethereal Lady, Rat Burana and Nania, as well as subsequent Broodmare Of The Year Our Table Mountain.

Equus Champion – Vardy

Already the dam of 3 winners, from as many runners, including the smart pair of Exclusive Quality and Kayson, Joshlin hails from a very successful family. Joshlin’s granddam, the dual winning Phif, also ranks as second dam of former Broodmare Of The Year Sunshine Lover. The latter made history when producing two daughters, Captain’s Lover and Ebony Flyer, to win the Gr.1 Cape Fillies Guineas of their respective year. Subsequently named Equus Champion 3YO Female Miler, Captain’s Lover went on to capture the Gr.3 Prix du Pin in France and the Matchmaker Stakes in North America.

Her half-sister Ebony Flyer won a trio of Gr.1 races during her career, with Fillies Guineas success added to with triumphs in both the Gr.1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes and Gr.1 SA Fillies Sprint. Ebony Flyer’s full-sister Cupid has herself become a top-class broodmare, with Cupid’s progeny headed by Equus Champion, and Gr.1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner, Vardy, and East Cape Oaks queen Eros’s Girl.

Joshlin’s colt on offer is a son of Irish champion Pathfork, a half-brother to the now Claiborne Farm based Gr.1 Preakness Stakes winning sire War Of Will. A son of Distorted Humor, the Gr.1 winning Pathfork has proven a prolific source of winners, with his notable progeny headed by Gr.1 winning two-year-old Mighty High, as well as graded stakes winners Jet Start, Marchingontogether, Mr Flood, My Friend Lee and Red Chesnut Road, and East Cape star Madame Speaker, to name but a few.
