Lot 100 – Hidden Silver x What A Winter

What A Winter colt looks a star in the making
What A Winter, a triple Equus Champion and four time G1 winner, was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2016-2017 when his first runners were headed by the graded stakes winners Dutch Philip and Magical Wonderland, who, between them have earned over R5 000 000!
What A Winter, who recently was responsible for four winners on a single day, also made a great start with his second crop. This crop is headed by four time graded stakes winner Clouds Unfold (winner of, among other races, the 2019 Gr.1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes) and recent Ibhyai Stakes hero Fabian. The very classy Clouds Unfold has already banked over R1.4 million for trainer Candice Bass-Robinson and owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud. With a large and promising crop of two-year-olds having already made waves, the future looks hot for What A Winter!
Boland’s What A Winter colt (Lot 100) is out of the beautifully bred Silvano mare Hidden Silver (dam of 2 winners from just three runners), who is a winning half-sister to Gr.2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Hidden Beauty. Hidden Silver herself is bred on the same Silvano/National Assembly cross as hugely exciting sire, and former Equus Champion, Vercingetorix, as well as Team Valor owned Gr.1 winner Happy Valentine.

William Longsword
Hidden Silver is from an outstanding family, with her relatives including exciting young sire William Longsword, Dubai star and Gr.1 sire Victory Moon, former Dean Kannemeyer trained Gr.1 winning speedster Real Princess, and Met winning champion Imperious Sue (dam of Gr.1 Woolavington 2000 winner Imperious Star). This filly has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winner Roxanne. Boland’s Eugene Freeman is very keen on this What A Winter colt, describing him as a “beautiful, strong and athletic colt.”
