Lot 137 – Cosmic Flower x Oratorio

Cosmic Flower

Buy the next Canadian Summer from Boland Stud!

Danehill’s triple Gr.1 winning son Oratorio made a big impression in South Africa last season. Already sire of more than 50 stakes winners the world over prior to 2021-2022, Oratorio ended the last South African season having supplied three more black type winners, notably the very classy Canadian Summer. The latter, subsequently named Equus Champion 2YO Filly for 2021-2022, finished first or second in each of her five starts last season, winning both the Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes and Listed Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes, and finishing second in the Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies)

Gr.1 Winner – Canadian Summer (by Oratorio)

Canadian Summer, however, is by no means the only top-class filly sired by Oratorio, with the latter’s other notable daughters including German Gr.1 winner Temida, dual Italian classic heroine Cherry Collect, New Zealand champion Banchee and South African graded stakes winners Love Bomb, Orator’s Daughter and Snapscan. Boland Stud will be offering another daughter of Oratorio at the upcoming November Two Year Old Sale. The filly on offer hails from an exceptional filly family. She is out of four time winner Cosmic Flower, whose sire National Emblem also ranks as broodmare sire of champions Legal Eagle and Seventh Plain.

The blue blooded Cosmic Flower, in turn, is a half-sister to three black type horses notably Listed Java Handicap winner Fulcrum. Her half-sister produced one of the best Cape two-year-old fillies of last season in the form of Miss Marguerite -runner up in both the 2022 BSA Cape Yearling Sale Cup and Listed WSB.co.za Irridescence Stakes. Cosmic Flower herself is out of the dual winning Badger Land mare Land Of Hope, a three-parts sister to Sunshine Lover -South Africa’s Broodmare Of 2011. The remarkable Sunshine Lover not only produced a pair of Gr.1 Cape Fillies Guineas winning daughters in the form of Champion Captain’s Lover and triple Gr.1 winner Ebony Flyer respectively, she also ranks as the granddam of both Gr.1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning champion Vardy and the latter’s top-class half-brother Universal.
