Lot 16 – Lovely Rita x Querari

Boland Stud is no stranger to enjoying success with the progeny of hugely successful sire Querari.

The latter has supplied Boland Stud with such high-class performers as this season’s Listed Ruffian Stakes winner River Queraress as well as recent record breaking Cruise Control, and the Ceres farm will be offering buyers another chance to buy a talented yearling sired by Querari when they present a beautifully bred colt by the Oasis Dream horse at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale. The colt in question is out of the winning Captain Al mare Lovely Rita, and, is thus, bred on the same Querari/ Captain Al cross as graded stakes winners Head Honcho (Gr.2 Premier Trophy) and Kampala Campari (Gr.3 Cup Trial). Lovely Rita, who is bred on similar lines to the Boland Stud bred dual stakes winning daughter of Captain Al The Merry Widow, is herself a half-sister to Singapore champion, and Gr.1 Daily News 2000 third Lizarre, as well as to Gr.3 Winter Guineas runner up Lake Arthur.

Lovely Rita’s dam Leading Dame is a winning full-sister to Gr.1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winner Talahatchie and half-sister to the Gr.3 placed dam of former Equus Champion, and Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner, Lady In Black. Further back, this is the family of Captain Al’s top-class daughter Dance With Al -winner of the 2010 Gr.2 Betting World Merchants and 2009 Gr.2 Southern Cross Stakes. Multiple champion sire Captain Al, the broodmare sire of this colt, is an outstanding broodmare sire. Among the growing list of stars produced by Captain Al mares are the Gr.1 winners Eden Roc, Potent Power, Same Jurisdiction and current sensation Kommetdieding -winner of the 2021 Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July and the 2020 Gr.1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs, by stakes, in 2018-2019, Querari is having another fantastic year with his two-year-olds this season and, at the time of writing, was once again the country’s Leading Sire of 2YOs by stakes for 2021-2022. Among Querari’s two-year-old stars this season are the aforementioned River Queraress as well as the very classy graded stakes winners Galla Vanting (Gr.3 Pretty Polly Stakes) and Prophet (Gr.3 Godolphin Barb Stakes). Querari, whose previous stars include Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon and champion Rio Querari, had yearlings make up to R900 000 at the recent National Yearling Sale.
