Lot 167 – Shaan Madary x What A Winter

“a filly with an elastic stride”

Boland Stud - Lot 167

What A Winter – what a sire!

Triple Equus Champion What A Winter was an exceptional racehorse, whose 15 career wins included four individual Grade One triumphs. The son of multiple champion sire Western Winter was one of the best sprinters to have raced in South Africa for many a year, with What A Winter reeling off wins in such important contests as the G1 Computaform Sprint, G1 Mercury Sprint and two runnings of the G1 Cape Flying Championship. The impeccably bred sire (What A Winter is from the same family as such legendary sires as Hyperion, Sickle, Mossborough and Sir Tristram) has made a tremendous start to his stud career, and What A Winter is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by winners and stakes. His first runners include stakes performer Dutch Philip, impressive debut winner Magical Wonderland (who beat the much touted Miss Frankel when scoring first time out) and easy recent winner and feature race contender Nanna Anna.

Boland Stud will be offering (as agent) a filly by this exciting young sire in the form of lot 167. She is a half-sister to 4 winners, including 9 time winner and G3 performer S’il Vous Plait, as well as to the dam of talented four time winning filly High Fashion. This beautifully bred filly is out of a winning Darshaan half-sister to the dam of G2 Celebration Mile winning young sire Kodi Bear, and her other relatives include recent triple G1 winner Esoterique. This filly traces back directly in female line to one of history’s greatest mares, Queen Of Light, with the latter ancestress of such important classic/G1 winners as Epsom Derby winner Royal Palace, Irish 2000 Guineas winner Desert Prince, Hollywood Gold Cup hero Greinton, 1000 Guineas winner Fairy Footsteps, French Derby winner and successful sire Lawman and R4 000 000 plus and SA G1 winner Captain America, to name a few!

Broodmare sire Darshaan is one of the greatest broodmare sires in history, with his daughters having produced more than 200 stakes winners, including the Epsom Derby winners Pour Moi and High Chaparral, as well as such champions/G1 winners as Islington, Greek Dance, Milan, Al Kazeem and Breeders’ Cup winner Dank.
