Lot 196 – Notability x Oratorio

Cherry On The Top relative bred for greatness!

Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud will be offering (as Agent) Kunta Kinte, a regally bred son of triple Gr.1 winner and Irish/French champion Oratorio, at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale.

A son of legendary stallion Danehill, Oratorio has sired over 90 black type performers, with his offspring including such Gr.1 winners as Military Attack, Beethoven, Banchee, Biz The Nurse, Van Halen, Mourinho, Temida, and Manawanui.
Triple Gr.1 winner has been in excellent form this season, with Oratorio sons Mardi Gras, Divine Odyssey and Van Halen capturing the Gr.2 Senor Santa Stakes, Gr.2 Colorado King Stakes and Gr.3 Man O’War Sprint respectively in recent times.

(Divine Odyssey (subsequently third to Hawwaam in the 2019 Premier’s Champions Challenge) also takes high ranking on the first official log for the 2019 Vodacom Durban July). Oratorio has a colt out of the regally bred Judpot mare Notability on offer at the KZN Sale, with this colt hailing from one of the best families in the stud book.

Notability herself is a half-sister to Gr.2 Post Merchants runner up Black Cat Back, with the pair being produced by the National Assembly mare National Celebrity. The latter in turn is a half-sister to Gr.2 Gold Circle Oaks winner Carolina Cherry, best known as the dam of Gr.3 Jacaranda Handicap heroine Cherry On The Cake and Equus Champion/Triple Tiara victress Cherry On The Top.

One of the best mares of her generation, the five time graded stakes winning Cherry On The Top has since gone on to make a name for herself at stud. Already dam of Gr.1 SA Fillies Classic third/Gr.2 SA Oaks runner up Blossom, Cherry On The Top made waves at the last two renewals of the National Sale, where her sons Captain Cherry and Ficksburg made R4.75 million and R4.2 million respectively.

This is also the family of Equus Champion Royal Aproval and the latter’s Gr.1 Thekwini Stakes winning own sister Royal Fantasy (the dam of Gr.3 winner Simply Royal and East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Winter Fantasy). This colt has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winner Bela-Bela!

Bela-Bela – Gr.1 Garden Province Stakes

Oratorio – Irsh Champion Stakes

Van Halen – Gr.1 Tsogo Sun Sprint

Military Attack– Longines Jockey Club Cup
