Lot 2 – Vancouver Gold x Go Deputy

Go Deputy filly’s champion connections

Boland Stud will be offering a classy, and one of just two on sale, Go Deputy filly at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale. This filly, who is offered by Boland Stud As Agent, is by a very underrated sire in the form of Gr.1 Sword Dancer Handicap winner and millionaire Go Deputy.

A son of dual US champion sire Deputy Minister, and from the family of breed shaping sire Fappiano, Go Deputy is already responsible for more than 20 black type performers.

The sire’s top offspring include Triple Crown hero Abashiri and fellow graded stakes winners Changingoftheguard, Flying Ice, Icy Trail, Pessoa, and Royal Badge. Other smart performers by Go Deputy include the classy fillies Adobe Pink, Deputy Ryder, Tambalang, Widow’s Lamp, Flichity By Farr and Insignis. The latter won the 2019 Jacaranda Handicap –beating subsequent Gr.1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes winner Camphoratus into second place in the process.

Go Deputy is represented at the 2019 KZN Sale by a filly, named Chilli Chestnut, out of the winning Var mare Vancouver Gold. The latter, bred on the same Var/Fort Wood cross as Gr.1 winner Contador, is a half-sister to the Gr.3 performer Le Clos, and is out of the regally bred Fort Wood mare Miss Olympic.

Bred on very similar lines to champions Horse Chestnut and Monyela, Miss Olympic was produced by Gr.1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Sport’s Chestnut –whose other progeny include Gr.3 Acacia Handicap winner Off The Mark and Gr.1 Gold Medallion runner up Sport’s Coach.

This is also the family of current high-class filly Temple Grafin. Vancouver Gold herself is very closely related to the Var sired mare Variety –the dam of short-lived Gr.3 Graham Beck Stakes winner Zen Arcade.

Her sire Var has already made his mark as a broodmare sire, with his daughters having already produced such stakes winners as She’s A Giver, Down To Zero, Miss Frankel, and Mambonick.

With a potent mix of speed and stamina in her pedigree, this filly looks one for any serious buyer’s short list!
