Boland Stud to offer Captain Aldo relative at August Sale

The St John Gray trained Captain Aldo was a top-class and tough racehorse. A son of champion sire Captain Al, Captain Aldo won or placed in more than 30 races, and earned in excess of R1 000 000. He scored his biggest career wins when victorious in the 2016 Gr.2 Hawaii Stakes and 2018 Gr.2 Joburg Spring Challenge -where Captain Aldo accounted for the likes of champion and triple Gr.1 winner Soqrat as well as Gr.1 winners Always In Charge, Coral Fever and Hat Puntano. Captain Aldo, who beat champion Talktothestars when victorious in the Hawaii Stakes of 2016, also captured the 2016 Listed Wolf Power 1600 -where his beaten opponents included such high-class performers as Killua Castle and The Hangman.

Captain Aldo – Gr.2 Winner

Boland Stud will be offering a very close relative of this classy performer at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale. The colt (Lot 212) in question was sired by Captain Al’s Gr.1 Cape Guineas winning son William Longsword and he is out of Captain Aldo’s classy half-sister Cup Cake. The latter won six times, with Cup Cake scoring from 1200m to 1400m, and she reeled off a hatrick of wins in 2015-2016 where Cup Cake captured both the Guineas Plate and Breeders Guineas Plate. She was also third in both the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes and Listed Breeders Guineas, and Cup Cake retired to stud having earned more than R370 000 in stakes.

Cup Cake, bred on the same Var/Elliodor cross as champion Val De Ra is also a half-sister to Gr.2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes winner Sportscuddle and R750 000 plus earner Glorious Jet, was sired by the lightning fast Var -who is fast emerging as a broodmare sire of note. Var has made his mark as a broodmare sire both in South Africa and abroad -he is damsire of Australian Gr.1 winner In The Congo, while in 2021-2022, Var was broodmare sire of both Gr.1 Computaform Sprint hero Master Archie as well as Gr.1 Gold Medallion victor Thunderstruck.
