African Warrior sister set to slay sale rivals

Vercingetorix is currently the hottest sire active at stud in South Africa. The champion son of multiple champion sire Silvano looks on course to be crowned Champion Sire, for a first time, this year, with Vercingetorix’s flagbearers this season including such G1 winning three-year-olds as Chansonette (WSB Cape Fillies Guineas) and Pomp And Power (Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby). Other notable runners for the sire include high-class sprinter African Warrior(G2 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes), Alesian Chief (G3 WSB Merchants), Gallic Princess (G3 WSB Live Tommy Hotspur Stakes), and Seeking The Stars (G2 WSB Club Prive Green Point Stakes, G3 #ThisIsRacing Matchem Stakes).

Remarkably, Vercingetorix’s current crop of three-year-olds include yet another G1 winner in the form of Ambiorix (Gold Medallion), as well as G1 performers Gallic Chief and Honokalani. Understandably, Vercingetorix’s success on the racecourse has carried over to the sales ring -he was the Leading Sire By Aggregate at the recent Cape Yearling Sale, where his yearlings made up to R1 000 000 and averaged R600 000. Vercingetorix also enjoyed solid success at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale this year, with his offspring fetching up to R850 000 in that sales ring. Boland Stud are no strangers to the progeny of Vercingetorix, with the Ceres farm having bred that sire’s high-class son African Warrior, among others. A member of his sire’s stellar first-crop, African Warrior earned more than R1 000 000 during a career which saw the Dean Kannemeyer trained gelding win all of the G2 Haval Motors South Africa Umkhomazi Stakes, G3 The Independant On Saturday Affluence Godolphin Barb Stakes and KZN Yearling Sale Million.

African Warrior

African Warrior “a breath-taking turn of foot”

Boland Stud are proud to be offering a full-sister to African Warrior at the 2022 National Yearling Sale, and this filly looks sure to be one of the standout lots at South Africa’s premier thoroughbred auction. The filly in question is a half or full-sister to five winners, and also numbers 12 time winner All Of Me, who has earned over R800 000 thus far, and promising two-year-old Philosophise, who ran fourth in the recent G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery, as half-sisters. She is out of the winning Jet Master mare Allez Afrique -a half-sister to G1 Cape Flying Championship hero O Caesour, and hails from the immediate family of such star fillies as Enchanting, Harry’s Charm, Laverna and Siren’s Call. The latter, winner of both the G1 SA Fillies Classic and G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas at three, ranks as the dam of this season’s G3 WSB Magnolia Handicap queen Sound Of Warning. Jet Master, broodmare sire of the filly on offer, was an exceptional stallion who has become an exceptional broodmare sire as well. Seven times champion sire in South Africa, Jet Master has already been Leading Broodmare Sire in this country on three occasions. Among the best progeny produced by his daughters are champion Hawwaam and G1 winners Kilindini and Silvano’s Pride -all of whom were sired by Silvano (the sire of Vercingetorix).
