Lot 3 – Varster x Futura

Futura out to create his own “Dynasty”
Recently deceased four times Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty left behind a host of outstanding gallopers in his all-too brief stud career. Dynasty’s numerous stars included such Equus Champions as Legislate, Bela-Bela, Beach Beauty, Just Sensual, and It’s My Turn, but perhaps his very best son was the mighty Futura.
Trained first by Brett Crawford and then by Justin Snaith, the magnificent Futura won nine of only 18 outings while banking an impressive total of R4 337 575. The versatile star, who won from 1200-2000m, collected four Gr.1 wins during his career, with Futura (unplaced just twice in 18 starts) winning all of the Gr.1 J&B Met, Gr.1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and back to back runnings of the Gr.1 Champions Cup. He collected a trio of Equus Awards in 2014-2015, when Futura was named all of South Africa’s Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Horse and Champion Middle Distance Horse.
Understandably, Futura’s first crop have found favour with buyers already, with his yearlings having already made up to R1 200 000 in the sales ring. Boland Stud are proud to be offering a regally bred filly by this superb champion at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale.
This filly was produced by the regally bred 3 time winning Var mare Varster, a half-sister to five winners notably exported Gr.2 Gold Circle Derby winner Silvano’s Jet and to Winter Oaks third Jetano. Granddam is the stakes winning Jet Master mare State Coach (a ¾ sister to Gr.1 Empress Club Stakes winner Little Miss Magic), a daughter of Gosforth Park Fillies Guineas winner State Treasure. This is a top class family responsible for such standout performers as champion Tara’s Touch and the Gr.1 winners Bilateral, Little Miss Magic and Priceless Assey.
Varster, very closely related to the Var sired Gr.2 SA Nursery winner William The Silent, is by a sire whose daughters are enjoying increasing success as broodmares. To date, Var mares have produced such stakes winners as She’s A Giver (Gr.3 Starling Stakes), Zen Arcade (Gr.3 Graham Beck Stakes), Miss Frankel (KwaZulu Natal Stakes), Mambonick (Swallow Stakes) and Down To Zero (Gr.3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap).
This filly has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.1 winner Lady In Black!
