Lot 389
Lot 389 - Face

Trippi colt a sports a stallion’s pedigree

One of the undoubted standouts in this sale is the colt by champion sire Trippi. The latter, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016 and consistently among the leading sires in the country, is enjoying another fantastic season this year, with Trippi’s current flagbearers headed by repeat G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark, graded stakes winning three-year-olds Amanzimtoti, Sound Of Warning and Trip Of Fortune, and Listed Lady’s Pendant queen Santa Maria.

Futura

Equus Champion & Horse Of The Year – Futura

Currently the sire of 85 stakes winners (his offspring have earned over $63 000 000 in stakes), Trippi has also enjoyed notable success in the sales ring previously, with his yearlings having already fetched up to R6 000 000! Trippi’s offspring to have gone through the ring at National Sales in years gone by include the aforementioned dual Queen’s Plate winner, and Equus Champion, Jet Dark, among many others. Trippi is represented in this draft by a half-brother to a pair of smart winners in the form of Rose A Veldt and current promising two-year-old Miss Cool. The latter, beaten just a length by the Boland Stud bred Listed Ruffian Stakes queen River Queraress on the second time of asking, opened her account for trainer Paul Peter when romping home to a clear-cut win on only her third start.

Dam of Miss Cool and the Trippi colt on sale is the beautifully bred mare French Rose, a half-sister to champion and promising young stallion Futura. The latter, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year, Champion Older Male, and Champion Middle Distance Horse of 2014-2015, has made a cracking start to his stud career, with Futura’s first crop of runners producing no fewer than seven stakes winners, and his second crop headed by promising sorts AJ’s Captain, Future Prince and Xavion. French Rose, in turn, is out of the the winning, but lightly raced, mare Scribblin’ The Cat -herself a daughter of G2 SA Fillies Nursery runner up Winter Fox. Winter Fox, granddam of this season’s very smart three-year-old, and Listed Secretariat Stakes second, Whafeef, was a Western Winter half-sister to G1 Cape Breeders Paddock Stakes queen Angelina. Western Winter mares have already enjoyed success when mated to Trippi -with this cross having already produced exported G1 SA Classic victor Lobo’s Legend.
