Lot 5 – Vino Veritas x Querari

Sunshine Silk relative represented in Boland draft

Well performed mare Vino Veritas, a three-parts sister to this season’s Gr.3 Gold Bowl/Gr.3 Caradoc Gold Cup winner Sunshine Silk, has a really impressive Querari colt on offer at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale. This well related yearling, bred on the same Querari/Silvano cross as the stakes winners Wonderwall, Cosmic Light and Joking, is being offered for sale by Boland Stud (As Agent).

His dam Vino Veritas (herself bred on the potent Silvano/Al Mufti cross which has produced the Gr.1 winners Al Sahem, Bold Silvano and Kings Gambit) was a very smart racemare whose five wins included the Allez France Handicap. A full-sister to exported Gr.2 Dingaans third Vacquero (now racing in Hong Kong), the smart Vino Veritas (who won from 1600 to 2200 metres) was also second in the Gr.2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes and third in the Gr.2 Gold Circle Oaks.

She is out of the mare Valdovino –who is a full-sister to Vanilla Silk, the dam of the very talented Gold Cup hopeful Sunshine Silk. The latter, also a daughter of Silvano, has already banked nearly R1 000 000 in stakes, with her wins including a pair of graded triumphs in 2018-2019. Vino Veritas’ granddam is the Foveros daughter Vino Rosa, a high-class racemare whose eight wins included the Gr.2 Newmarket Stakes.

Directly descended in female line from the mighty Drohsky, Vino Veritas’s other notable relative include Gr.1 Holiday Inns winner and sire Majestic Crown, champion sprinter Senor Santa and Cape Guineas star Flight Alert. Querari, the sire of this well bred colt, has enjoyed consistent success since retiring to Maine Chance, with his 30 plus black type performers including the graded stakes winners Querari Falcon, Kangaroo Jack, Head Honcho, Wonderwall, Pinnacle Peak, Cosmic Light, and the exported Gauteng Guineas winner Monks Hood.

Inevitably, Querari’s progeny have proved popular at various auctions this year, with Querari yearlings making up to R850 000 at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and up to R4.2 million at this year’s National Sale. This colt has been bred on a similar cross to the one that produced Gr.2 winners Wonderwall and Cosmic Light!
