Boland to offer a Jewel at August Two Year Old Sale

There are few fillies on offer at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale who sport a better female line than does Pamushana’s Jewel (Lot 61). The latter, consigned to the August Sale by Boland Stud already packs plenty of paddock value with Pamushana’s Jewel having a very classic looking pedigree. A daughter of South African Triple Crown/Gr.1 Summer Cup winner Louis The King, Pamushana’s Jewel is a full-sister to the very smart performer Pamushana’s Pride.

Louis The King

Triple Crown Winner – Louis The King

The latter, his dam’s very first runner, won the Listed Derby Trial before finishing second in the Gr.1 World Sports Betting SA Derby and third in the Gr.3 Track And Ball Derby in his three-year-old campaign. In his SA Derby effort, Pamushana’s Pride had to take second place behind only Triple Crown winner Malmoos, with the beaten runners behind Pamushana’s Pride including both subsequent Gr.2 Allied Steelrode-Onamissionmile winner Bingwa and Gr.1 WSB Presents The Gauteng Summer Cup hero Flying Carpet.

Pamushana’s Jewel and Pamushana’s Pride were both produced by the well bred Ideal World mare Ponal. The latter, also closely related to the Ideal World sired Gr.3 Graham Beck Stakes winner Zen Arcade, is a full-sister to Gr.3 Track And Ball Derby winner Cape Speed. Ponal’s dam No More Screws won five and was a half-sister to graded stakes winners Cork Wood and Close The Gap. This is also the family of legendary South African champion, and world-class broodmare sire, Horse Chestnut, star fillies Monyela, Sport’s Chestnut and Temple Grafin, as well as current top-class sprinter Smorgasbord.

The latter won the 2022 Gr.2 Senor Santa Stakes, before being beaten under two lengths when third in the Gr.1 Golden Horse Sprint. This family is also responsible for Opera Glass and Litigation -the winners of the 2022 Racehorse Owners Association Spook Express Stakes and 2022 Derby Trial respectively. Pamushana’s Jewel is directly descended in female line from one of the greatest mares in the studbook -Conjure.
