Vercingetorix colt to shine at KZN Yearling Sale

There is no doubt that former Equus Champion, and Gr.1 Jebel Hatta winner, Vercingetorix is the star of the current South African stallion band. Currently the Leading Sire, by stakes, for the 2021-2022 season, Vercingetorix’s popularity and increasing success was highlighted at the recent National Yearling Sale. The champion son of champion sire Silvano ended the National Sale as second Leading Sire by Aggregate, with Vercingetorix’s 42 yearlings on offer grossing R25.955 million and averaging an impressive R617 976. Vercingetorix had seven yearlings fetch R1 000 000 plus at the 2022 National Sale with his top lot a colt out of Tamdiid who was knocked down for R3 000 000.

Pomp And Power

Gr.1 Winner – Pomp And Power (by Vercingetorix)

Already the sire of five Gr.1 winners (Ambiorix, Astrix, Chansonette, Pomp And Power and Vernichey), Vercingetorix also made headlines at Turffontein on Champions Day earlier this year where his sons Astrix and Nebraas won the Gr.1 Tab The Premier’s Champions Challenge and Gr.3 The Citizen Gold Bowl respectively. Boland Stud is proud to offer a colt by this phenomenal stallion at the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale, and this colt has plenty of pedigree appeal! This colt is out of Var’s three time winning daughter Varster, a half-sister to exported Gr.2 Betting World Derby winner Silvano’s Jet and the stakes placed Jetano -both of whom, like Vercingetorix himself, were sired by the mighty Silvano.

Varster’s dam is the stakes winning State Coach -whose sire Jet Master is also broodmare sire of the talented Vercingetorix runners African Warrior who was bred by Boland Stud and sold at the KZN Yearling Sale, Padre Pio and Rascallion. Bred on the same Vercingetorix/Var cross as the very talented sprinter Alesian Chief, this colt is also bred on very similar lines to the Vercingetorix sired Southeaster Sprint winner Bereave -who, like the Boland Stud consigned colt, descends in female line from the Gr.1 Gosforth Park Fillies Guineas winner State Treasure. This remarkable family has produced numerous top-class horses over the years including champion Tara’s Touch and fellow Gr.1 winners Bilateral, Little Miss Magic and Priceless Asset. Var, the broodmare sire of this colt, continues to impress as a broodmare sire with his daughters having already produced Equus Champion Tempting Fate as well as recent Gr.1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie.
