Lot 76 – Duchess Of Bourbon x Rafeef
Own a Future Champion – Rafeef Colt with a Stallion’s Pedigree
Imagine the thrill of owning a racehorse with the potential to not only dominate the track but also secure a legacy as a future stallion. At Boland Stud, we are proud to offer an impeccably bred Rafeef colt (Lot 76) at this year’s National Yearling Sale—an extraordinary investment in both performance and pedigree.
A Pedigree of Proven Champions
This exceptional colt is by Rafeef, a son of the legendary Australian stallion Redoute’s Choice, and a proven Group 1 winner himself. Rafeef has taken South African racing by storm, producing no fewer than 22 black-type winners in his first four crops. His progeny have dominated the track, with standout names including:
- Aragosta – Gr.1 World Sports Betting SA Derby winner, earnings exceeding R2.2 million.
- Master Archie – Gr.1 Computaform Sprint winner, now standing at stud.
- Thunderstruck – Equus Champion and Gr.1 Computaform Sprint winner.
- William Robertson – Gr.2 winner with 13 career victories and counting.
- Frances Ethel – Gr.2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks queen.
With such exceptional success, Rafeef’s progeny are in high demand, and this colt is one of the most exciting prospects available.
A Maternal Line Rooted in Racing Royalty
This outstanding colt is out of the Listed Winter Oaks winner Duchess Of Bourbon, a daughter of the five-time Gr.1 winning sire Duke Of Marmalade. Duke Of Marmalade’s daughters have already produced group winners worldwide, cementing their value both on the track and in the breeding shed. The colt’s granddam, Rose Garden (by the elite broodmare sire Spectrum), is a half-sister to some of the most accomplished racehorses in South African history:
- Soft Falling Rain – Equus Champion 2YO, Gr.1 SA Nursery winner, and an international sensation with group victories in Dubai and Britain.
- Let It Rain – Gr.2 Heineken Cape Stayers and Gr.3 World Sports Betting Gold Bowl winner.
This family has produced champions across multiple continents, including Soft Falling Rain’s own legacy as a sire, with progeny such as Shangani, Waterberry Lane, Heavens Girl, and Montreal Mist—all high-class performers.

Equus Champion – Soft Falling Rain – Champion Miler in UAE
This colt is inbred to Danehill, a genetic trait shared by many elite racehorses, including:
- 2024 Gr.1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking
- Recent Gr.2 TAB Gauteng Guineas hero Parisian Walkway
With a pedigree crafted for speed, stamina, and international appeal, this Rafeef colt is more than just a racehorse—he’s an investment in a dynasty.
