Lot 79 – Massachusetts x Rafeef
Red Hot Rafeef represented in Boland’s August Draft
Blue blooded sire Rafeef has made an exceptional start to his stud career. The son of legendary sire Redoute’s Choice and South African Horse Of The Year National Colour is South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021 by both individual winners and stakes earned, and Rafeef looks a hugely exciting addition to the local stallion band. A full-brother to champion Mustaaqeem, Rafeef’s first 22 runners include no fewer than 13 winners, headed by BSA Cape Yearling Sale Cup winner Mounia, as well as the likes of Aragosta, Bella Chica, Dockofthebay, Ravensthorpe, Star Of The West and William Robertson.

Gr.1 Winner – Rafeef
Boland Stud will be offering, as agent, a colt, by the name of Marquez, by this exciting young stallion at the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale. And Marquez has plenty to recommend him going forward! Not only is he a son of South Africa’s latest sire sensation, but he is a full-brother to the very promising William Robertson, who followed up a third place effort on debut with a striking maiden win over 1200m at the Vaal. Marquez, bred on the same Rafeef/Trippi cross as Dockofthebay -a smart winner of his only start, is out of the blue blooded Trippi mare Massachusetts, herself a full-sister to R8.526 million plus earner Illuminator and half-sister to Farm Sale race winner Rock The Globe.
Herself a three time winner up to 1600m, Masschusetts is herself out of the smart Pacific Lights, with the latter, in turn, a half-sister to Gr.1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship. Former Champion South African sire Trippi, the broodmare sire of Marquez, has fast established himself as a top-class broodmare sire. Not only is Trippi broodmare sire of exciting young stallions Liam’s Map (winner of both the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and Gr.1 Woodward Stakes) and Not This Time, his daughters have also produced such notable graded stakes winners as Miss Florida, Miss Sunset, Sheela, and Signalman to name a few. This is a pedigree packed full of class and speed, and Marquez looks sure to continue his family’s success on the racecourse!
