Lot 183 – Surefire x The United States

Boland Stud - Lot 151
Boland Stud - Lot 151 HS

Kommetdieding relative hails from a top family!

Young Galileo horse The United States has made a stunning start to his stud career. A Gr.1 winning full-brother to Gr.1 winning fillies Hermosa and Hydrangea, The United States’ very first starter Sheela made a big impression on debut when romping home to down male rivals and take the Listed Storm Bird Stakes by nearly four lengths. Sheela made it two wins from two starts when capturing the Gr.2 4Racing SA Nursery at the expense of the highly rated Smorgasbord, and she looks a truly top-class filly. Her sire The United States, who hails from the same family as breed shaping champion sire Last Tycoon, was a durable and high-class racehorse, who earned over $2 000 000, and won seven times, including the Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes over a top-class field.

Boland Stud will be offering a pair of very well related yearlings by The United States at this year’s August 2YO Sale, and both look exciting prospects with plenty of upside. Among the two yearlings by The United States in Boland Stud’s August 2YO Sale draft is a filly, by the name of United We Stand, who hails from the same family as one of South Africa’s most promising three-year-olds currently in training -Kommetdieding. The latter, sired, like The United States, by a Sadler’s Wells line horse, won his first four starts in stylish fashion, and put up a devastating display when romping home to a clear-cut success in the Gr.3 Politician Stakes.

United We Stand is out of the three time winning Surefire, a half-sister to GR.3 King’s Cup hero Pirate’s Gold. Surefire’s dam, four time winner Shiver My Timbers, is a half-sister to dual Prix du Cap winner Dacha (the granddam of Kommetdieding), Gr.2 Gold Bracelet winner Cruise Collection, and the smart Requista. The latter won five and ran second in the Listed Spook Express Handicap but is best known as the dam of triple Gr.1 winner Captain America and Gr.3 Jacaranda Handicap heroine Aquitaine. United We Stand, whose third dam Riding Light is a daughter of French Derby winner and outstanding broodmare sire Top Ville, traces back directly in female line to 1000 Guineas and influential broodmare Picture Play. By a son of the great Galileo and a descendant of a 1000 Guineas winner, it is safe to say that United We Stand sports a truly classic pedigree!
