Boland Stud to offer Twice Over colt at August 2YO Sale
Boland Stud will be offering two yearlings on behalf of the Digteby Stud at this year’s August 2YO Sale. Both yearlings are sired by Gr.1 winning stallions, who have already sired more than one Gr.1 winner and both lots look attractive prospects for the future. The champion, and four time Gr.1 winner, Twice Over is no stranger to KwaZulu-Natal, with Twice Over’s champion son Do It Again having captured the province’s premier horse-race, the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July, in both 2018-2019.
Champion & Horse Of The Year – Do It Again (by Twice Over)
Twice Over, also sire of this season’s exciting two-year-old Smorgasbord, is represented here by a classically bred colt, whose dam was sired by five times South African champion sire Silvano. The colt in question, a half-brother to the useful performers Elusive Shade and Quickfire, is out of three time winner Sylvan Shade, herself a half-sister to seven time winner and Gr.3 Byerley Turk second Bois De Var. Sylvan Shade, closely inbred to the great Nijinsky II, is out of the stakes winning Sheltering Trees, a speedy daughter of leading broodmare sire Dancing Champ.
The latter is damsire of numerous top-class performers, notably Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner, and leading sire, Success Express and South African Horse Of The Year Yard-Arm. The well bred Sylvan Shade hails from the same family as top-class sprinter and successful sire The Eliminator, as well as champion filly Star Effort, and this is also the family of exported Gr.2 Gauteng Guineas/Gr.2 Dingaans winner Monks Hood.
